International students in the U.S. are subject to specific laws related to their immigration status. These are often quite confusing. ISS is here to help you understand these rules and help you maintain your legal status so that you can continue to be an international student in the U.S. Please visit the Immigration section of our website for more information, and feel free to stop into our office hours listed on the staff page, schedule an appointment with us, or email us at any time with questions.
Some immigration questions may be beyond the scope of ISS advising. We recommend you speak with an ISS advisor first; and if needed, an ISS advisor may refer you to Student Legal Services or provide resources to help you locate an attorney. Please note that Student Legal Services is located on the Twin Cities campus and their services for UMD students are limited to immigration related services for currently enrolled students. Please see the Student Legal Services website for the list of immigration related services they may be able to assist with.
