Employment Regulations for International Students

International students are subject to special rules regarding employment while studying in the United States on F-1 and J-1 student visas.

F-1 and J-1 students with documents issued by the U of M can work on campus a maximum of 20 hours per week when school is in session and up to 40 hours per week during breaks and summer. International students cannot work off campus without special permission from the U.S. government.  Please talk to ISS staff if you have any questions about employment rules and permissions as an international student.
